Today is the anniversary of the birth of my esteemed brother, Mark (at right). As I said last year, we've gone from sibling-rivalry squabbles to comrades in the global struggle against injustice.

Every time I see a movie or show about family (American History X, Gosford Park, The Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are on opposing hockey teams), I remember how lucky I've been to have such a great guy so close to me. Like I tell my students every semester, I love him like a brother.

Happy birthday, bro. Next time I'm in Florida I'll get you a Publix sheet cake.
