Wandered around Freiburg, which is one of Madison's Sister Cities (along with Ainaro, East Timor). Of special interest were the "Stumbling Blocks" known as Stolpersteine, 10 cm brass squares commemorating the victims of National Socialism. Apparently the artist Gunter Demnig has placed them in 610 locations around Europe.

Then we hopped on a train to Frankfurt. We've finally got our brains around the different trains and how the stations are set up. Arrived in Holzheim around 1 PM and were greeted by Diane's childhood friend Heather — and her husband Matthias — at the station. Returned to their home and met their kids Joshua, Rebekka, and Hannah.

Had some delicious fruit and pastry, then toured the church where Matthias is a pastor. Rested and had a lovely dinner of vegetables and cheese, followed by a buffet of card games: Timeline - American History, 6 Nimmt, and Wizard. I was better at the first than expected, lost miserably at the second, and somehow won the last.
