I Got a Snow Day! I Got a Snow Day!

Wooo! Hooray for the wise overlords at the Sun Prairie Area School District, for closing schools today due to inclement weather. While I know this probably irks the crud out of you who must go to work (and parents of kids who now have to find something to do with them during the day), I say: WOOO!

Also: Woo.

Since I've suddenly got the day off (and I foolishly did not bring home any papers to grade – honestly), I might as well do that XMas Meme thing that Garrett sent me.

XMas Meme Thing
  1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Old comics from the newspaper. Or that roll of paper I found on the sidewalk one time that I've been using for over ten years.

  2. Real tree or artificial?

Menorah. Diane has a tomato plant in the kitchen.

  3. When do you put up the tree?

We She moved the plant inside a couple of months ago.

  4. When do you take the tree down?

I expect she'll move it back outside in the spring.

  5. Do you like eggnog?

No, I love it. TPCQ: "Tis the season, Marge! We only get thirty sweet noggy days. Then the government takes it away again."

  6. Favorite gift received as a child?

Star Wars action figures. And I got a microphone one year.

  7. Do you have a nativity scene?

No, but I have a Naïvité scene. It's a bunch of people looking up "gullible" in the dictionary.

  8. Hardest person to buy for?

George W. Bush. What do you get for the man who has taken everything he wants by force?

  9. Easiest person to buy for?

    Mark. Catfish. Nuff said.

  10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

Someone gave me an empty CD case once. That was pretty crummy. It was a CD I'd lent him.

  11. Mail or email Christmas cards?

I believe the term is "snail mail".

  12. Favorite Christmas Movie?

Nightmare Before Christmas. The Ref. Christmas Story. Head of the Family.

  13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

As late as possible. I often give to charities instead, since it's easier. it more truly represents the spirit of the season.

  14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

One time I got a can of soda and after I drank it I threw the can in the trash.

  15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Diane's ricotta cheese cookies. Mmmm, cheese cookies.

  16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?

We have no lights on the tomato plant.

  17. Favorite Christmas song?

Christmas in Hollis by Run D.M.C. – thanks for stealing my answer, Garrett. I also like that Elvis song Garrett has and some of the stuff on the Dr. Demento Christmas Album. "I'm a Christmas Tree" is appropriately anguished.

  18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home?

Stay the heck home. I get a precious week to get sane again before school starts up in January, so I need to regenerate. This means vacationing in Florida during the summer – smart move, me!

  19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?

Method Man, Inspectah Deck, RZA, GZA, U-God, Ghostface Killa, Raekwon the Chef, and ODB (RIP).

  20. Angel on the tree top or a star?

There's a vine growing up on the top of the tomato plant.

  21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

Open one which is a toy fire engine, set the tree on fire, watch it burn, bury it in the snow, claim we were robbed, collect sympathy and cash from the townsfolk, buy a car, explode it in a frozen lake, have deceit revealed, celebrate Christmas in a house which has been emptied of everything except a washcloth. The End.

  22. Most annoying thing about this time of year?

Songs on store loudspeakers. Feeling compelled to get things for people because of the position of the Earth vis a vis the sun. Hideous commercialism. State-sponsored religious celebration. (TPCQ: "Christmas is a time when people of all religions come together to worship Jesus Christ.")

  23. What I love most about Christmas?

Time off. Seeing friends and family (sometimes). More time off.
TimeWaster™

Garrett stole the song, but I've got the video for "Christmas in Hollis"! Enjoy.

Today I'm listening to: Haydn!
