I can't shake the impending feeling of doom when I see people bringing loaded firearms to town hall meetings about health care. If people have guns (especially paranoid right-wing people who believe there's someone trying to restrict their freedoms) they will eventually use them. (TPCQ: "If you've got it, you have to use it, right?") Someone is going to get shot.

You'll forgive me if I don't trust these people. Sure, they have the right, but it's still a sickening example of what's wrong with political "discourse" in the United States. We're supposed to be discussing health care for the most vulnerable among us (as well as the "well off", who are often one paycheck or less away from bankruptcy if medical problems arise), but instead these people are pretending like the Dems want to send them to internment camps. (TPCQ: "It's the biggest tax increase in history!" "Actually dad it's the smallest tax increase in history." "Well anyway, I'm still outraged.")

I am reminded of what Bill Hicks said when he heard people were bringing shotguns to UFO sightings: "Doesn't there come a time in our evolution as a species where you put your guns aside? Just [bad word]ing once?" If ths keeps up, mark my words — someone is going to get shot.
